Understanding Styrene-Butadiene Rubber (SBR): The Most Widely Used Synthetic Rubber in Industrial Aplikacijas

Posted on24 October 2025

Styrene-butadiene rubber (SBR) is the world's most widely produced and applied synthetic rubber. Copolymerized from styrene and butadiene, it offers outstanding comprehensive properties and serves as a key material for various rubber Izdelki including tires, shoe soles, and hoses.

Based on polymerization methods, it is categorized into emulsion-polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber (E-SBR) and REŠITEV-polymerized styrene-butadiene rubber (S-SBR). E-SBR, with its mature process and low cost, is widely used in standard tires and industrial Izdelki. S-SBR offers controllable structure, superior abrasion resistance, and reduced rolling resistance, making it suitable for high-performance green tires.

Its performance advantages include:

Outstanding abrasion resistance, particularly in S-SBR;

Superior aging resistance compared to natural rubber;

Excellent processability and blendability;

Wide raw material sources and stable costs.

Primary Aplikacijas include tires (tread and sidewVses), automotive seals, shock-absorbing Izdelki, conveyor belts, and shoe soles. Amid the green transition trend, S-SBR enables structural designs that effectively reduce tire rolling resistance and enhance fuel economy, making it a key material for new energy vehicle tires.
